Leisure Suit Websites.. What They Say About Your Company.
Company Executives…. would you let one of your sales reps go out on sales calls looking like this today? If I had to guess, I would with a resounding NO.
Have you ever stopped to think that your website is “dating” your company? Consider this…your website is a 24/7 sales rep for your company. If you think otherwise, well…think again because IT IS. And with the way consumer buying decisions are being formed in today’s marketplace, your website is playing an ever more important role in determining if they will even reach out and contact you let alone do business with you. Once again, if you think otherwise…….check out this brief video on ZMOT. If you haven’t heard of ZMOT you will, and today is as good a day as any to get “schooled”.
Pretty interesting huh? With that in mind…what is your website saying about your company? Each time a new prospect finds your website you have fractions of time to attract and engage their attention. If your website is outdated in both look and feel it’s saying allot. It’s saying that your company is outdated, it’s saying your products and services are outdated, it’s saying that I (prospective customer) need to continue searching for a company that is current and relevant. It doesn’t matter if you’re the most up to date company in your industry…prospects won’t even give you a chance based on a out dated first impression.
What to do? If you’re website is 5 years or older visually, you are at risk of becoming what I call a “Leisure Suit Site”. Look at your competitors websites and consider this your measuring stick. If your outdated, allocate marketing dollars to get a modern look.
If your websites content has been the same since your website was launched….well…”you’re doing it wrong”! Content needs to be updated and expanded to be appealing, relevant and most of all current to visitors and search engines. If you’ve read any of my past articles, you are aware that when it comes to SERP or search engine rank position, content trumps design. Content is the king of kings to Google, Yahoo and Bing. So keep your content updated regularly.
